L to R: Steven James, Steven Drizos, Scott Law, Jerry Joseph, Mookie Siegel, Dave Schools, Pat Kearns, Joe Kempler, and Jeff Crosby - just a few of the folks who worked on the latest Jerry Joseph record.  Photo taken at Bob Weir's TRI. Notably not pictured here is engineer Rick Vargas.  He most likely took the photo.
I spent a good part of 2015 working on Jerry Joseph's latest LP which came out last week.  The title is By The Time Your Rocket Gets To Mars.  It contains Jerry's most personal songs to date (that's a big statement considering he's been writing from the heart for over 40 years now).  Engineering and producing records has taught me a lot about other people and myself.  Working on this record taught me more about those things, and what it means to do my job as a producer, than any other experience I've had in my life.  I never saw myself as a co-producer.  I don't think Dave Schools saw himself that way either....but due to circumstances, we ended up working together on this record.  It was amazing. I love Dave, and I can say that with zero hesitation.

Getting to mix at PLYRZ Studio with the legendary Jim Scott.....well, that changed me completely.  I hear music a little differently than I did before.  My mixing style changed because of watching Jim work.  The studio feels fresh again...and I've been at this now for over 23 years.  I feel lucky to be on this adventure.

Here's Jerry's best take on what must be almost indescribable; the making of a beautiful piece of art.  There's a few things in it that I thought, "well, that's not exactly how that went down." But it's surely close enough.  I'm sure if you spoke with anyone who worked on By The Time Your Rocket Gets To Mars, we would all have a slightly different take.  That's one of the interesting things about creating art....you enter into a time and place that you don't necessarily completely understand.

Go out and find this record and have a listen.  It's stunningly beautiful and filled to the brim with great Rock and Roll.
